Good afternoon! I have several announcements today, but want to start with something many of us have been looking forward to! You are cordially invited to enjoy the 2020 Magnet Virtual Talent Show! The playlist is available now via youtube at Thank you to everyone who participated as a performer or will participate as a virtual audience member. During this challenging time, I hope you enjoy a chance for the Magnet community to come together.
Now that you know what your next binge-worthy piece of media will be, I have 6 key announcements below.
  1. Thank you for a focused second week of extended Independent Learning Days. Parents, this would not be possible without your support and partnership at home. Please continue reaching out as you have questions. As RCPS shared directly yesterday, our digital learning has been extended as our school building will be closed through April 24th. Please refer to for more information. We will continue with classes next week through itsLearning. Then we will all take a step back for our scheduled Spring Break from April 6th-10th. Please note that all of our classes will resume online on April 13th and it is important for students to actively participate.
  2. As RCPS also shared yesterday, proms for Rockdale County High School, Heritage High School, Salem High School and the annual school banquet for Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology have been canceled.
    1. Students and parents, I understand that this is very disappointing and particularly difficult for our seniors. I will work with our seniors and senior families to ensure we find ways to celebrate their achievements as it is safe to do so. We are already working on plans to include elements of Banquet into our on campus Senior Walk and Celebration Day for May 18, 2020.
    2. As our Banquet invitations should have arrived at your houses early last week, please do not send in any money or RSVP information given the event cancellation. Any money that had been sent will be refunded once we return to school. We will arrange for alternative ways to celebrate our 9th-11th students in place of Banquet once we are back at school and it is safe to do so.
  3.  Earlier this week a number of students serving on our senior celebration committees met virtually to brainstorm ways for their class to continue to connect virtually. They are working on a video project during these digital learning days. Seniors, please check your email and itsLearning counseling page for details and a request from the video committees if you have not already.
  4. Did you watch/participate in the Magnet Watch Daily by RMSST Student Council and/or the spirit days every day this week? Be kind to yourself- if you tried each day, you are welcome to answer yes! If your answer is yes, then complete this form to claim your prize 🙂
  5. Student Council's Magnet Watch Daily interactive padlets will continue next week. The link for each day will be shared via twitter and your grade-level's counseling page within itsLearning each morning! Again, if you participate all week then you can receive candy from me when we return back from school and be entered into the raffle for a free pizza coupon mailed to your home!
  6. The College Board announced a significant change last Friday that all AP testing will be online,  each test will be 45 minutes in length, only free response questions will be used, and there will be two test dates with one for certain in May. Your AP teachers, Mr. Williams, and I will continue to collaborate to support you as you continue preparing for AP exams in light of these new changes. Please keep in mind that we will all have many questions until College Board shares more detailed information on April 3rd. Please refer to the attached AP Information flyer for an overview of what we do know so far about the changes. Your teachers for each AP class will be your go to for more information as it is available.
Stay safe and thank you for your continued support!
